Markdown MCP Server
Hosted MarkItDown for Claude Code, Cursor & VS Code

Let your AI assistant turn PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and HTML files into clean Markdown. One URL, nothing to install: https://rawmark.tech/mcp. Scanned PDF pages are read by AI, tables included.

Add it to your client

The endpoint is https://rawmark.tech/mcp (Streamable HTTP). The Authorization header is optional: leave it out to use the free plan, or put your license key in it to use your paid plan. Copy your key from the converter on rawmark.tech once you have a plan.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http rawmark https://rawmark.tech/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY"

Cursor — ~/.cursor/mcp.json

No key yet? Remove the header lines: the free plan gives 5 conversions a day.

Tools

📄

convert_document

Converts one PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, HTML or TXT file to Markdown. Arguments: url (a public link) or content_base64 with filename; optional ai_accuracy (paid plans) to read every PDF page with AI for exact tables. Each call uses one conversion.

📊

get_usage

What your plan has left: conversions for a license key, or today's free conversions.

Limits: files up to 20 MB. A URL must be public: private and local addresses are refused, and at most 3 redirects are followed. Scanned pages: the first 2 per file on the free plan, up to 50 per file on paid plans.

What to ask

Once the server is added, ask in plain words, for example: "Convert https://example.com/report.pdf to Markdown with rawmark and summarize the tables." The assistant calls convert_document and reads the Markdown it gets back.

For local files the assistant can send the file as base64. For large files, the REST API is simpler: curl -F file=@report.pdf with the same key.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a hosted MarkItDown MCP server?
Yes: RawMark runs Microsoft's open-source MarkItDown behind an MCP endpoint at https://rawmark.tech/mcp (Streamable HTTP). There is nothing to install: add the URL to your MCP client.
Do I need an API key?
No. Without a key the free plan applies: 5 conversions a day per IP address, and the first 2 scanned pages of each PDF are read by AI. With a RawMark license key, sent as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY, your paid plan's limits apply and ai_accuracy is available.
How do I convert a file that is on my computer?
Pass it as content_base64 with its filename. For large local files it is usually simpler to call the REST API with curl, so the file does not pass through the assistant's context.
Does it work with claude.ai custom connectors?
Not yet. Custom connectors call the server from Anthropic's infrastructure, so every user would share the same free quota and there is no field for an API key. Use Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, which connect directly.
Are documents stored?
No. A file is deleted as soon as its conversion ends. Pages read by AI are sent to Anthropic's API for transcription; details are in the privacy policy.
